You know you saw this coming.

Thursday was a treatment day and, once again, we have complications.
Really, is anyone surprised?
The deal is this: There was no treatment. The last adriamycin shot caused mouth sores beyond belief... They lasted for almost the entire two weeks after the shot. They were still there yesterday, which is why my doctor put everything on hold. Apparently the taxol can cause mouth sores as well. Or, at least, they'd make my current sores stick around for a very long time. So, yeah, not fun.
I was understandably upset by this turn of events. Dr. Cobleigh seemed surprised by my lack of happiness over the delay, but came up with an alternative. Rather than doing the 12 shots of taxol over the next 12 weeks, she's going to give me dose dense taxol (basically, a double dose), 4 times, every other week. The upside? I don't have to go to the hospital as often, I'll be able to be at school more consistently, I'll get good weeks inbetween treatment weeks, and (woohoo!) I'll actually be done with my treatment earlier than I expected (halfway through November instead of halfway through December).
The downside? The higher dose means I'm much more likely to experience side effects (nausea, numbness/tingling in my hands, muscle pain, fatigue). I'll also have to take two days off of work each treatment (they'll all be on Thursdays, now. No switching to Fridays). This means changing my sub schedule and changing the details for my rides. And, for all that this change seems like a good thing, I'm wary of it. I guess I had my mind set one way, and I feel like my equilibrium is a little off, switching gears now. So instead of jumping for joy, I'm not sure what to think.
That said, I am enjoying my symptom free weekend. The mouth sores are almost completely healed (this means I can eat again!!!), I'm going to have a great Saturday night with my roommates celebrating Mandie's fantastic test taking abilities, and then I'm going swing dancing on Sunday. I start a new rotation on Monday, which is somewhat stressful, but it'll be a short week, followed by a long weekend, so it'll work out.
I'll make this work.
(PS: Apollo, you had said you could take me to treatment next week on Friday, but now the treatment will be at 11am on Thursday. It means leaving from my house at about 9:45/10ish. Can you still take me, or should I find an alternative? Sorry for the last minute change. :-/)
